movie excitement!

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

I spend an unhealthy amount of time on IMDB. For those of you that are not obsessed with movies IMDB stands for Internet Movie DataBase. It lists every movie known to man, as well as the full cast and crew of those many many many movies. Oh, and if you click the name of a particular actor boom!  IMDB kindly shows you every single movie or television show that that actor has ever been in……I use it to win arguments and prove that I’m right. For real.

I also get lost on IMDB watching dozens of movie previews. Because I love you guys so much and wanted to research this list to the very best of my abilities , so I watched just about every trailer they had through next Christmas. Yes, I did this for you, and not because I have a problem. ;)

Anywho, here are the films I am looking forward to seeing in theaters or in the comfort of my own living room, and I hope that you can get excited about them too!

1. Quartet

I love me some Maggie Smith, yes I do, and she is the lead in Quartet so that alone was a sign for me that it was most likely a film I would enjoy. The preview did not prove me wrong. It’s got that classic British humor and a cast of characters well into their 80′s sure to mean that when Matt and I go and see this movie we will most likely be the youngest in the theatre. Much like The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel…which was fantastic.

Enough from me. If you are alive and think Maggie Smith is the bomb watch  the preview !

Gangster Squad
yes. yes. yes. I’m not into “action” movies. Jason Statham? pass. Sylvester Stalone?pass. Even the Die Hard movies….meh. But give me a bad-ass thriller any old day! Especially if it has a cast like this one! Ryan Gosling is so diverse and could play almost any role as far as I’m concerned, Sean Penn is a mob boss, yes. Nick Nolte, Giovanni Ribisi, and Emma Stone. Emma Stone in a role like this is interesting to me. I think she is hilarious, and anyone that saw The Help knows how truly talented she is…and we shall see how she does in this type of role. in short this movie looks bad ass.
Warm Bodies
This movie is being considered the chick flick of Zombie films. That’s cool, I’m not super in to the goriness of traditional zombie movies and this one looks pretty funny too! Apparently Warm Bodies was also a book? Anyone that has read it? Please leave your thoughts in the comments!
Stand up Guys
Pacino. Walken. Arkin. yes yes and yes. You would think this is a comedy, and I’m sure there are more than a few comedic moments in this movie….and I sense there will be a major twist in this film as well!
Oz The Great and Powerful
I loved the Wizard of Oz when I was a little girl. I watched it every single day.Multiple times , every single day along with The Little Mermaid. As an adult I’m excited about this fun “adaption” of the story I loved so dearly. And it’s funny because I did always wonder how the “Wizard” got there and why he seemed to be such a fake! lol
I think this will be one that we see in theaters, perhaps 3D!

The Place Beyond The Pines

This move looks nothing short of Epic. It seems to me after watching the preview that every actor involved turns out an absolutely stunning performance. There are not words to do my expectations of this movie justice so I’m going to leave you to the preview….
Have you seen any good movies lately that you think I would love! I’m always (always!) adding to my “to watch” list!

for the love of movies!

Tuesday, January 8th, 2013

Hello lovely friends! It’s no secret that I love to watch movies. I love to see a cinematically beautiful movie that is well-written and clever. Going to see a movie is often the date of choice for Matt and I. On a day off from Starbucks during a stressful season of life, I love to get a whole stack of movies from Redbox and spend the whole day indulging in my favorite pastime. In short, we watch a lot of movies in my household, and I want to start including here on The Lovely Lemon more often. Movie reviews, movies coming out that I am excited to see, and lists of my favorites. Starting with Almost Famous, which is hands down my favorite movie of all time!

William Miller ( Patrick Fugit ) is a 15 year old aspiring rock writer that gets hired by Rolling Stone to go on tour with and write about an up and coming rock band in the summer of 1973 . Almost famous won a Golden Globe for best Picture and an Academy Award for best screenplay. I’m not surprised. The cleverly written script is the best part about this movie, although it is also filmed beautifully! I first saw this movie when I was in high school, it was part of my brother’s (very large) movie collection. I fell in love with it instantly.

I love the premise of this film, which makes sense really, I normally enjoy movies about writers.

I also could not love the cast of this movie any more! Patrick Fugit, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Kate Hudson, Frances McDormand, Jason Lee, Zooey Deschanel, and Billy Crudup. Amaaaaaazing.

If you have not seen Almost Famous, but you want to, I encourage you to watch the “Untitled” version, which is essentially the director’s cut. There are so many clever scenes in the Untitled version that aren’t in the theatrical version that make the movie.

I wanna talk movie with you guys,  it’s one of my very favorite things! Anyone seen Almost Famous before? Did you love it? Hate it?….let’s chat!

fall movie cravings

Thursday, October 25th, 2012

I AM a movie nerd. It’s true.

I am realizing that my nerditude has risen to a new level. I may or may not have organized our movie collection by season. It’s very helpful. I get a hankerin’ to watch creation movies at certain times of the year , so I thought this would streamline things a bit.

Once things finally slow down and we break into November I will have some time to indulge in some of my favorite fall pastimes.  Pumpkin carving/painting, yummy cinnamon-smelling treat baking, fall craftings for our house (including a fun project I have planned for the living room!) , and of course watching all the fall movies I’m craving.

Just a few…..

Do you have any movies for this nerd to add to the list?

strange but true….on a loop

Tuesday, September 11th, 2012

Strange but true…I watch my favorite shows on an almost constant loop! I am in the middle of watching one of these five shows at any given time at my house! Blogging the afternoon away? 30 Rock. Craft night to get stuff done? The Office. (I really can’t tell you how many times I have watched every available episode of this series…countless) All of these series are so clever and well written! I watch them while I create our weekly menu, I watch them while I fold laundry….all.the.time…..yup.

It makes me want to be watching TV a little less than I do . To think that I am watching TV .all the time….I think I’m going to make an effort to watch these shows (even though I love them!) way less in favor of replacing that time with music. I feel like it will help me to be even more productive to not have a story line to keep up with…does that make any sense? lol

I also truly believe that there is a reason to quote one of these shows at any given time. true story. ;)

The comedies that consume (too much) of my life:

30 Rock!

I didn’t get into this show until it was in it’s third season. But how much do I love Liz Lemon? Let me count the ways…..

1 // 2 // 3

How I Met Your Mother!

My brother was really into this show, and he kept trying to get me to watch it. But I was hesitant. I get nervous when there is a laugh track, you know? But I am so glad that I did eventually watch it ! Ted is probably my least favorite character of them all , and Marshall has got to be my favorite!

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

The Office!

I.love.the.office.

I could watch this show all day every day! It’s such a solid ensemble cast that I couldn’t even dream of choosing a favorite character! But I love the documentary style, and the humor that is subtle at times and outlandish at others!

1 // 2 // 3

Parks and Recreation!

I have to be honest. I did not like this show when it first aired.did.not.

I enjoy Amy Pohler so so much but I really felt like her character was just a female Michael Scott when I watched th first couple episodes. It wasn’t until I gave it another chance a couple months later that I realized that Leslie Knope is just her own very special person.I wish that I knew someone just like her.I also wish I knew someone like April Ludgate and Ron Swanson too!

I am converted. :)

1 // 2 // 3

Modern Family!

This is my favorite show! Every section of the family is it’s own kind of funny! I never ever get sick of Phil’s humor. But I love Jay’s sarcasm too! Incredibly incredibly funny show. If you haven’t seen it but you enjoy any of the shows above….I recommend that you do!

Any shows you just can’t get enough of?

Fall movie excitement

Thursday, September 6th, 2012

My love of movies knows no end, and this fall there are a couple movies that I can really get excited about! Some are moving, others have the obvious quirk factor that always draws me in, and some have a slightly darker humor…but all of these movies are beautifully cast.

Liberal Arts

Sometimes I tire of Josh Radnor as Ted Mosby on How I met Your Mother, but I adore him in these indie roles that he has been choosing. He was fantastic in Happy Thankyou More Please. And Elizabeth Olsen, well, I know I’m a little late on this..but she is incredibly talented and I’m really excited to see more from her!

Butter

What a comedic cast in the movie! Jennifer Garner has chops, especially when she plays uptight-funny and holy crap how do I Ty Burrell? (Phil from Modern Family!) …let me count the ways! Funny man. This comedy is a tiny bit dark, but I think it’ll be really good!

Trouble with the Curve

If there is one thing that I know, it’s that I can always trust Clint Eastwood’s movie role choices. He has the best subtle humor, but he always chooses films with a lot a heart.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

The soundtrack alone is enough of a reason to be excited about this movie….but it also looks so so lovely.Sometimes I’m wary of films set in high school , it’s just hard to tell if they are going to be cheesy or not. You know? But this looks heartfelt and funny too!

What fall movies are exciting you right now?
