thriftings….

Friday, May 10th, 2013

I have a problem. I seem to be unable to drive past the Salvation Army without stopping. I don’t even always have to buy something, I just feel the need to explore and treasure hunt. I call this condition thrift madness. Madness I say!

I haven’t shared my thriftings in a while because there haven’t been as many of them. I have successfully become a seasoned thrifter, and don’t feel the need to snap up every cheap, cute thing. Only the things that will come into the house and be loved, and used. Those are the rules.

I do , however, still have a very soft spot for dishes and coffee mugs. That will never end.

onto the goodies……

> glassware in many shades of yellow.

> 7 gorgeous coral/gold striped glasses scored for two dollars. Two dollars!…and a fancy pink glass that’s perfect for sangria!

> The Bell Jar. This will be read very soon.

>a lovely yellow bag for my laptop and a red straw bag. Both waiting in the corner of my office to be emblazoned with doilies!

> Big Mac blue and white striped overalls. YES YES YES. Those are happening. In fact, I wore them last night!

>I have had major luck lately with finding jeans at the thrift. The perfect pair of skinnies for seven bucks. Yup.

> stoneware platter with mustard stripe and a funky brass bread basket. I think they were something like one dollar each.

> brass swans. A buck each. Very appropriate since I live in swan city

Lakelanders! Where is your favorite thrift store in town?  I’m looking for some new places to explore.

score!

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013

I was perusing the local thrift a couple weeks ago and I came across this cobalt beauty. It’s a flouncy little Target skirt that I snagged for 4 bucks instead of 20.SCORE. I also picked up the grey tee for like 2 bucks. DOUBLE SCORE. Pull it together with a skinny mustard yellow belt and white sandals found at Target (on sale!) and this has become my favorite thrifty thrifted outfit so far! You can catch me chowing down on beignets, going out on dates with Matt, shopping with my mom, and hitting the thrift all summer long in this outfit!

Also, my hair situation is getting further and further out of hand. My bangs have even started doing this out of whack flippy-do thing. Something must be done! If you didn’t see my hair help post….give an indecisive girl a little help and head over to share your opinions on what in the world I should do to my hair!

Pretty little lady

Saturday, March 16th, 2013

I found this pretty little lady at a local favorite vintage shop called Pumpernaks! (hmmm…out and about feature soon to come!) Pumpernaks is a Saturday tradition, and my new pretty lady is a perfect example of why it should be!

There are ten little Matryoshka dolls all together, which is rare. Normally when you do find a gorgeous handmade Matryoshka doll , there are some nesting dolls that are missing. If you are going to spend your birthday money on something, make sure to spend it on something beautiful at a favorite local shop!

Happy Saturday everyone!

Wow! It’s been a long long time since I have posted my thrifty findings here for you guys! That definitely doesn’t mean that I have been absent from the thrift stores, only that I have been a LOT more selective with my purchases. We are in a less busy time of the year as far as out photography business (Penny+Finn) goes so money is a wee bit tighter. Yes , I am still taking trips to the thrift store with spare “mad money” , because I love the thrill of the hunt. However, I am not bringing as many treasures home unless they can be put to immediate use in my closet/home.

The new thrift rules, cheap aint free you see?  ;)

Anywho, here are some items that did make the cut over the past month or so….

Okay, alright….I’m a sucker for the book section. My Harry Potter book collection is rounding out nicely with most copies at about a dollar a book.  I just can’t resist adding to my thrifted library of lovely future reads!

I’m especially excited and proud of the two literary find pictured below. The glass Castle and The Night Circus are two novels I have been eye-balling at Target for some time now, but instead of shelling out $12-$18 a pop…i paid $2….this is the stuff of bookworm and thrift dreams I tell ya!

Also, scored recently….a pretty white lace dress, perfectly worn-in Patron shirt that I cut the collar and arm hemming off of and have since been wearing every week, black and white striped cotton Target dress, and a 3/4 sleeve turquoise and arrowed Target shirt that does perfectly with my mustard belt…..

Then  there’s these too-dads…

Been to the thrift lately….tell me some tales .

thriftings….

Thursday, December 13th, 2012

I havent’ posted any of my thrift finds here in over a month…partly due to the fact that I have not been thrifting nearly as much as I used to. Which is probably a good thing, because it’s a habit I indulged in a bit too frequently. (cheap ain’t the same as free, people) I also haven’t posted any thrift scores in a while because, well, we were so busy with other things that I didn’t really have the opportunity to stop and photograph all the latest scores. So, here come the highlights….starting with my new favorite sweater!

The trips I have taken lately have been more pop-in, so I haven’t been as focused on scouring the clothing racks for perfect pieces…but books and mugs have abounded!

On another note, Jessica of Lovely Little Things is reviewing a couple of my cup sleeves on today, stop in, read the review, and say hello from The Lovely Lemon!

Also, Amanda of Sincerely Amanda asked me to put together a gift guide for thrifters and crafters and it’s up today! Take a peek at some of the things on my wish list, and stick around to read a bit of her lovely blog too!

Happy Thursday!
