Inspire me Monday // succulents and cacti

Monday, April 15th, 2013

I’m starting to feel like succulents are taking over my life! (not to mention my Pinterest account)

I want them everywhere, in every nook and cranny of the apartment! However, I have never had “plant life” in our home, aside from the  occasional bouquet of blooms courtesy of Matt. I have heard that succulents and cacti are fairly easy to keep alive.Fingers crossed.

I am working with a very talented  friend on some styling ideas for our little apartment for a project that I will keep a tiny secret for the time being. I have already declared that succulents should be a big part of this plan! There is just something about them, they make a statement. They are simple and lovely, but certainly not shy.

The colors and shapes…my goodness. I’ve never been in love with plant life before

….tell me I’m not the only one.

P.S. that freakin sweet planter box on the left in the bottom photo. I want an entire succulent/cactus garden spread across our coffee table in those lovely little boxes like those! …good thing I know a guy ( and a cute one too! )

inspire me monday : Pushing Daisies

Monday, April 8th, 2013

Pushing Daisies is an ABC show that was on for two seasons a few years ago, and it’s a cryin’ shame that is wasn’t on longer. The costumes, the characters, the dark humor….

have any of you seen it? It’s a lovely spectacle!

This is Ned…ned_012

The clothes on this show are insane. Every single outfit that Chuck don’s is something that I would totally wear! Fun retro looks, as well as colorful mod outfits, mixed in playfully with modern shapes and accessories! The interiors on this show are pretty darn dreamy too!

A few lovelies from Modcloth that Chuck would totally approve of:

I’m not usually a big bright colors wear-er…but without fail every time I am on a Pushing Daisies kick, I am inspired to don some brighter shades. If you are in need of a good dose of springtime , and have Amazon Prime…get to watchin’, and let me know what you think !

P.S. that adorable Nan Lawson print up top can be found right here.

Inspire Me Monday : poms!

Monday, March 25th, 2013

I love pom poms. Always have.

Pom poms have got to be the happiest of all the little craft creatures. Happy and homey. Maybe it’s the yarn that makes them seem so cozy? Whatever it is that makes them so darn likable, they have my attention.

I have a shamefully large stock of yarn and I want to turn every scrap of it into happy little poms. Poms on my shoes, poms on my walls as colorful garlands, pretty bowls filled with poms, and most of all I am DESPERATE to make a pom “chandelier”. Yup. MUST.

Quit job. Make poms.

My crafty brain is filled with these …..

Inspire Me Monday : Be…..

//

These words are so lovely and so simple….yet so easily forgotten in this world.

Be silly.     Most of the time, this is o difficult task, nothing I have to force certainly. But living those days in life that seem to be so much longer than the rest, this pricinple gets a little jumbled. I can be terribly serious. Down in the dumps even. The last couple months as I have been creatively and organizationally challenged there have been more and more of these days. I have to breathe , reboot, and decide to just let it go and be silly instead. Start dancing silly, have someone shake me by my shoulders and make the most silly sounds in the world, (this has been proven to work time and time again for me) or start singing the peanut-butter jelly song (this will most likely induce the silly dancing you see). Less serious. More silly please.

Be honest.     This can be difficult at times. Those times when you have to admit a wrong, or confront a friend. It’s so hard to be transparent and vulnerable enough to give someone total honesty….it can be kind of scary to put yourself out there in that way. But take courage friends, because there is nothing that frees you more than honesty. It’s fulfilling to be true to yourself by being honest and transparent.

Be kind.     You can always be kind. Always….to the person that has wronged you, the waiter that was rude to you, to those closest to you as well as strangers.  A bit of kindness can lift the spirits, and elevate those of an already happy soul. The world needs a bit more spontaneous kindness I think….

Be silly. Be honest. Be kind….just do it.

Inspire me Monday: a better blog

Monday, March 11th, 2013

2013 has been an interesting year for me creatively. I have SO MANY ideas for a million different projects. However, I feel like time management and execution have become difficult for me. So here’s what goes down: I have an idea, but I don’t have the time (or feel like I don’t have the time, or focus) to go through any kind of process with it, so consequently, it’s not perfectly executed…and I don’t want to share it with anyone.

I love to blog. I love having a place to keep all of my ideas and inspirations, to share struggles and triumphs, and to document fun times!….But I have the desire to blog better.

I don’t need to be a pro-blogger. But I do want a blog space that I can be really proud of and that represents me really well. I think it’s about time to learn some new things about the blog world, pair that up with some new skills, time set aside specifically in my week for planning/brainstorming/focusing on this blog.

Firstly : Time

I always have every intention of spending a lot of time and energy creating content, taking photos, staging DIYs to share….and then life happens. Things get in the way, I find that I  ”don’t have time”…even for myself. So, I will be making time for myself and this blog. I feel that making time for meaningful blogging that I can enjoy processing through, and be proud of right now and for years……will be so worth it.

There have been weeks that I have had a bit more time and an extra spring in my blogging step….I look through the posts from the weeks that are like that, those blogging weeks that truly represent me. Every post has honest, creative writing that screams ” this is Sara! ” ….those weeks feel awesome.

Research, Research, Research…

I have a ton of random inspirations floating around in my mind, and when I’m having a hard time putting them together within my blog in a cohesive, thought out way…I look to the experts. The talented blogging ladies that I admire: Elsie of A Beautiful Mess, Bri of Design Lovefest , and Gala Darling of Gala Darling. Each of these lovely ladies have beautifully branded blogs filled with lovely images and just spilling over with information (and cuteness!). I read a lot of blogs. A lot. My google reader if full guys…but these lovely ladies share their blogging knowledge so freely. As I try to spruce up my blogging workflow ….I soak up the knowledge.
