Katie and Brian are engaged!

Thursday, May 2nd, 2013

Our friends Katie and Brian got engaged a couple months ago! Matt and I have had the pleasure of having them book our photography services for the big day! We love taking photos of couples so much, but I have to say that it is especially fun when we already know the couple! It’s like we get our own little private celebration with them!

Before we really get in to the photos, I have to give a little shout out to Katie. She is a blogger as well! Her blog, Heart the Journey is filled with delicious food recipes, all things based in natural/clean living, and little bits of everyday life with her fiancé Brian , and pups Lexie and Pheonix (you get to see these little guys near the bottom of this post!)

We met up with Katie and Brian at an awesome little spot in Tampa called The Oxford Exchange to get things started, and then walked around for a couple hours stopping to take photos here and there!

They are a seriously adorable couple…see for yourself!

I’m so proud of our friends Robyn and Jarrid of The Poor Porker! They were named one of Food and Wine’s top 10 new Artisans! The Poor Porker is number three!! Are we surprised here in Lakeland? Um….no. These amazing, driven, creative people so deserve this recognition! Matt and I are also excited because one of our photos of these lovely creatives was used in the magazine! That’s right…a Penny & Finn photo has been published in the May Issue of Food and Wine magazine….icing on the cake!

P.S. One of Robyn and Jarrid’s recipes has also been published in the May issue of Glamour! We are so proud!

> if you want to keep up with all the exciting goings-on of the Poor Porker, add their blog to your reader! Along with all the exciting news, they also post delicious recipes, industrial DIYS, and the most amazing thrift finds you will ever see!

Nominated!

Saturday, April 20th, 2013

liebster-thumbnailKate from an awesome little blog called Createsque has nominated me for a Leibster award, which is given up to up-and-coming blogs with about 200 followers or less. The word Leibster is German, it means my dearest, my favorite, my dear…and I’m so honored that Kate has nominated me! The usual requirements are:

> to list 11 things about myself

> answer 11 questions from the person that nominated me

>choose 11 people of my own to nominate

> notify those that I nominate of their award-winningness

————————————————————————————————————————————

Now, I’m gonna be a little bit of a rebel about this whole thing.

I’m absolutely going to answer Kate’s questions for me. However, I’m going to skip the part where I tell you eleven other random things about myself. I think I’d fell pretty full of myself by the time I’m done. But, I will still be nominating some Leibsters of my own down at the bottom of this post! …I have also added in some photos to spice things up! :)

Here we go!

> What motivates you to blog?

I blog so that I have a place to share myself. A little internet place to share little bits and pieces of me. Photos I take, things I’m excited about, and lots of memories. I also one knowing that memories are being collected in this space. Years from now, I will be able to look back through this blog and remember all of our travels and family events, and see countless photos. Essentially, one day, this space will serve as a memory keeper. An online scrapbook of sorts. I also love that I have made so many friends through blogging. I have met some of the most creative  people I know through blogging!leibster 2_002

> What was your favorite book growing up?

Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House in the Big Woods. I loooooooved this book so much! It’s the very first book in the Little House series, all about Wilder’s Childhood. This book includes a lively, warm Christmas celebration. I think that’s what made me love it so darn much!leibster 3_003

>Romantic Comedies, mysteries, thrillers, dramas, or action?

Oh boy. This is a hard one for me to answer. I love movies so much. I would have mainly say that I don’t like cheesy romantic comedies or thrillers. That’s my only rule. My favorite movies include Almost Famous, The Life Aquatic, Ruby Sparks, The Brothers Bloom, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Stranger Than Fiction, and really anything with Alan Arkin.

So….comedy?movies_017

>Where do you most like to vacation?

This is no secret. The City of Savannah is currently highest on the list of places I want to be! We also love to spend time at Disney when Savannah just isn’t in the cards!leibster 1_016

>Beard or no beard (on guys of course!)

I like it either way on Matt! When we got married he was very clean shaven, but he has been sporting a beard for the last couple years!

>What are you looking forward to most this Spring?

Hmmm….not the heat. Spring colors! I have a lot of colorful clothes in my closet that are not designed to wear when it’s chilly. I’m excited to start mixing and matching with all sorts of lively shades!leibster 5_007

I’m also thinking about how I can decorate the apartment for Spring with lots of fun DIYS! I made these paper bag blooms last fall, and I was thinking about doing the same kind of thing, but maybe paint them in happy colors?leibster 5_006

>Do you read directions or jump straight to trying to figure it out yourself?

Normally, I am a directions girl. If the directions aren’t super helpful, or they are confusing I turn to good old Google, and if I’m really messing it up…I run to Matt. He can fix anything. :) leibster 6_008

>Favorite baked good?

Meringue cookies. For sure. They are my kryptonite. I buy them once a year. Once. I buy them for my birthday with a promise to myself not to pass judgement upon myself for how quickly they are devoured. FAVORITE.

>What Pandora Station is your favorite?

These guys:pandora_002

>What do you do to get the “creative juices” flowing?

So many things are helpful to me creatively. Sometimes just getting out of the house is the most helpful thing to do. Grab a book and head to the coffee shop. It clears my headspace, and that helps me be creative for sure. The other most creativity boosting thing I like to do is watch movies. I think the sheer creativity that goes into the movie making process alone is inspiring, not to mention the lovely interior designs, costumes, and snappy dialogue.

Clear head. Watch a beautiful movie. It totally works for me.out to coffee_018

>Favorite candy?

If I want chocolate it’s Milky Way Midnight. If I want fruity it’s Starburst.Done and done.

————————————————————————————————————————————

Inspire me Monday: a better blog

Monday, March 11th, 2013

2013 has been an interesting year for me creatively. I have SO MANY ideas for a million different projects. However, I feel like time management and execution have become difficult for me. So here’s what goes down: I have an idea, but I don’t have the time (or feel like I don’t have the time, or focus) to go through any kind of process with it, so consequently, it’s not perfectly executed…and I don’t want to share it with anyone.

I love to blog. I love having a place to keep all of my ideas and inspirations, to share struggles and triumphs, and to document fun times!….But I have the desire to blog better.

I don’t need to be a pro-blogger. But I do want a blog space that I can be really proud of and that represents me really well. I think it’s about time to learn some new things about the blog world, pair that up with some new skills, time set aside specifically in my week for planning/brainstorming/focusing on this blog.

__________________________________________________________________________________

Firstly : Time

I always have every intention of spending a lot of time and energy creating content, taking photos, staging DIYs to share….and then life happens. Things get in the way, I find that I  ”don’t have time”…even for myself. So, I will be making time for myself and this blog. I feel that making time for meaningful blogging that I can enjoy processing through, and be proud of right now and for years……will be so worth it.

There have been weeks that I have had a bit more time and an extra spring in my blogging step….I look through the posts from the weeks that are like that, those blogging weeks that truly represent me. Every post has honest, creative writing that screams ” this is Sara! ” ….those weeks feel awesome.

Research, Research, Research…

I have a ton of random inspirations floating around in my mind, and when I’m having a hard time putting them together within my blog in a cohesive, thought out way…I look to the experts. The talented blogging ladies that I admire: Elsie of A Beautiful Mess, Bri of Design Lovefest , and Gala Darling of Gala Darling. Each of these lovely ladies have beautifully branded blogs filled with lovely images and just spilling over with information (and cuteness!). I read a lot of blogs. A lot. My google reader if full guys…but these lovely ladies share their blogging knowledge so freely. As I try to spruce up my blogging workflow ….I soak up the knowledge.
