current read: little bee

Friday, August 31st, 2012

Okay, so listen. I’m going to need to be a little bit mysterious about this book… it’s how the author would want it I think.

A friend loaned this book to me a couple weeks ago saying that I would really enjoy it, and I really really trust her book judgement so it didn’t really bother me too much when I read the back to get an idea of what type of story I was about to start reading only to find this:

“We don’t want to tell you WHAT HAPPENS in this book.

It is a truly SPECIAL STORY and we don’t want to spoil it.

NEVERTHELESS, you need to know enough to buy it, so we will just say this:”

———————————————————————————————-

” This is the story of two women. Their lives collide one fateful day, and one of them has to make a terrible choice, the kind of choice  we hope you never have to face. Two years later, they meet again – the story starts there…..”

“Once you have read it, you’ll want to tell your friends about it. When you do, please don’t tell them what happens. The magic is in how the story unfolds”

….so you see I can’t give you any specifics.

But I can tell you that I am enjoying it a lot and that  it really does unfold in a wonderful way.

But I will leave you with my favorite line from this book so far, it’s simple but so lovely:

“We cannot choose where to start and stop. Our stories are the tellers of us.”

thrifted frame re-do

Some of my favorite things to thrift for are things for my home. I love finding old kitchy pieces to add to the mix. Sometimes when you peruse the thrift stores…you need to keep an open mind and be prepared to flex your creative muscles. It’s one of the best parts about thrifting. The challenge. The thrill of the hunt and the victory when you can turn something you like into something you love!

I found this plastic framed mirror at one of my favorite local shops probably about to years ago now. I loved the design because it reminded me of my grandma’s beach house, where I spent time every Summer growing up. But I wasn’t so crazy about the color and the mirror was in pretty bad shape.

out came the mirror. on went the paint.

Before:

A couple coats of my favorite brand in Smoke Grey did the trick!

After:

now to decide where to hang it………

( I’ll keep you posted when I finally decide where it will live )

This week was a very ” in the house” kind of week. I guess that goes along with all of the organizing? I did more on the cleaning, listing, and re-arranging side of things which means I rarely got out of my PJs or yoga pants. I did however wear almost the exact same hairstyle every time I actually did leave the house….but it’s a style I really like, and it’s easy for me to do so…it works! ( I’m not a hair person so when I find a style that works I stick with it!)

It’s so near to that time of year for Matt and I ! That time when we get to be in Savannah Georgia once a month! It makes for a very lovely fall indeed….the chill in the air, the lovely air of the city. It’s good.real good.  I feel like Savannah has become my second city, my home away from home. It’s a creative city, a friendly city, a warm city…with plenty to see (and eat!). I cannot wait to go back!

Doing this much thinking about it being nearly that time to travel to my favorite city, had got me looking through the Lovely Lemon archives. A tour of The Paris Market, a honey tasting trip to Savannah Bee Company, good eats and a retro good time at Back in the Day Bakery….I can’t what to get back on the road!

P.S.

how lovely are the prints above? I almost lost it when I saw the Savannah one! Check out these lovely print shops for more pretties!
