inspire me monday : moonrise kingdom

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Phew! I am pretty darn worn out from my long (but AWESOME!) weekend! All week long I slung coffee at Starbucks by A.M. and crafted my fingers away by (very) P.M….I became obsessed with my goals and production deadlines for The Fancy Flea! But I pulled it off, the day was amazing and I could not have done it without my the help of my booth buddies! A big thanks to Megan, Matthew, Annika :) , and Nikki (of Squid Dumpling…seriously check her out!) for all of your help…you helped keep the day super fun and were so helpful and awesome! Also, I obviously could not have done it without Matt’s help! He always helps me set  up…he’s the best craft show roadie … plus he knows me so darn well that he does a better job at psyching me up for the day than anyone else I know ! Thanks everyone!…photos to come on Friday!

aaaanyways……..inspire me Monday..go!

Wes Anderson is a huge inspiration for me! All of his movies are beautifully made, have the most well selected color palettes , and let’s just be honest the most odd-ball story lines! I just love em’ though! So, I could not have been more excited to see the newest is out in May! It’s called Moonrise Kingdom, and honestly it looks like the best one yet! It’s strange, but interesting, and (as always) has a terrific cast! Enjoy!

Just tell me you don’t want to see that movie! …ok, maybe it’s a bit off beat and possibly not for everyone…. but I am very excited!

Happy Monday!

nifty thrifty

Friday, April 27th, 2012

I have been a thrifter for years….until more recent months, I mainly thrifted for household items, accessories, and craft supplies. I couldn’t really see how I would be able to find any clothes that would be my style, or be the right fit. Thankfully I have changed my mindset on that! Recently I have found a couple super cute (& cheap!) skirts that fit so well and really represent my style! I adore the prints of both of these amazing skirts!

……A little bit of a different format today for an “outfit post” . It was so fun to mix and match, and in the process I even found a couple combinations that I hadn’t thought of before!  Enjoy!

Here’s to my new fashion thrifting adventures! I plan to (finally!) learn how to sew this year. That way if I find the perfect print or fabric but it’s not my size, or a modern fit….. I can fix it myself! Hooray for crafty progression!

What’s the BEST thing you ever thrifted?

Junkin’ it

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

Matt and I have been a little bit more “non-traditional” these days. Especially when it comes to our photography.

For this shoot, we got together with an awesome local couple (more to come soon on their AMAZING beignet stand here in Lakeland, The Poor Porker) Robyn and Jarrid . It is “the norm” to take a couple’s photos somewhere classically pretty. And even though Robyn and Jarrid are pretty,  they are definitely not prissy AT ALL, so instead of a “typical” location we opted to follow along as they went junkin’…..a favorite pastime of theirs. Bring on the dirt baby, and the more rust the better!

We started off at their home to capture bits and pieces of their morning coffee ( and meet their dog, Dagny ) then the real fun began as we stopped at little junk piles on the side of the road that held promise of treasure, and of course the junkyard!

…….. here we go!

Check out some of their finest trash to treasure projects right here! Friggin’ rad!

current read: the devil wears prada

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

Yes sir. You read correctly. I am reading The Devil Wears Prada!

I really liked the movie ( I am a fan of well written girly movies and of course Meryl Streep) so when I found a copy of this book at the local thrift for $1 I just couldn’t say no!

I am so intrigued by the whole fashion world. Both strange, exciting, and yes a little silly.

So far it’s a great girly book….lots of fashionable descriptions, biting remarks, a crazy demanding boss, and of course the perfect blend of wit and emotion….not Earth shaking literature, but a good place holder until I find my next book series!
